FUNDAMENTALS Program - is designed to provide Graduates and Trainees with the legal knowledge and skills building blocks that are essential to all future King & Wood Mallesons practitioners
PATHWAYS Program - are rotation-based, practice area training programs to ensure that Graduates and Trainees receive the knowledge they need in their specific practice areas in a timely way.
Informally, King & Wood Mallesons will continue to provide Graduates and Trainees with mentoring and on-the-job guidance as well as experience of cutting-edge legal work with industry-renowned lawyers.
Practical Legal Training (PLT) is the term used for a course that satisfies the practical requirements for admission to legal practice for our Law Graduates in all of our Australian centres. Graduates completing PLT gain a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice.
King & Wood Mallesons offers all of our Graduates a tailored in-house PLT program. This is a co-operative program conducted by the College of Law with King & Wood Mallesons. Most of the in-house PLT program is delivered online by the College of Law. The learning is self paced within a timetabled framework. The online program is complemented by customised face-to-face skills training. King & Wood Mallesons is the market leader in the customisation of in-house PLT, having already worked with the College of Law for 10 years to ensure that:
King & Wood Mallesons’ precedents and resources are linked to the online course
The course contains exercises and examples that are relevant to a commercial legal firm.
One King & Wood Mallesons PLT Graduate commented that: "The support from Partners, Solicitors and other Graduates combined with the practical work experience during PLT made it a very rewarding learning experience."
Our Trainees complete 4 seats of 6 months duration as part of their 2 year traineeship. Trainees will participate in the International Graduate Program, as well as in Asia-specific development programs tailored for their needs.
Comments from some of our recent Hong Kong Trainees include:
“[King & Wood] Mallesons provided me with unique opportunities to get involved in some very high profile transactions. I have had the opportunity to work with a lot of talented people, including colleagues and clients. The experience has been very intellectually nurturing (and challenging, of course!) and has definitely helped me to develop the many attributes a lawyer needs to have.”
"Overall, the experience was valuable and the time spent here was fun. Everyone was nice and willing to help. [King & Wood] Mallesons Hong Kong truly reflects the Australian culture, whilst being the buzzing city of Hong Kong, hence the culture in [King & Wood] Mallesons Hong Kong is well-balanced and we get the best of both worlds."
