Overview

Our media and entertainment lawyers advise on all aspects of the media and entertainment industries; from pre-publication and editorial clearances to regulation and compliance, commercial transactions, litigation and dispute resolution.

Our team advise Australian and international media and brand owners, publishers and broadcasters including Seven Network, Pacific Magazines, AAP, Australian News Channel - Sky News, Daily Mail Group, George Patterson Y&R, John Fairfax, Lexis Nexis Butterworths, Australian Jockey Club, Sensis, Telstra and Time Inc.

We recognise that our media and entertainment clients operate in an environment of urgent deadlines, potentially high risk publications, and constantly changing and complex technology. Our team provide advice which is responsive, commercially relevant and which covers the field for media publications, commercial activity and litigation.

Advice on content: we are available to give around the clock pre-publication advice on television, print media, books and advertising materials, focussing on defamation, contempt of court, regulatory trade practices, copyright and other publishing restrictions.

Litigation: our litigators are known for their depth of experience from many of the high-profile Australian defamation, copyright and trade practices/passing off trials. We are also increasingly involved in the newly emerging areas of media related litigation from challenging suppression orders and the validity of the new Anti-Terrorism laws.

Commercial and regulatory: we provide ongoing advice on issues relevant to the continuously changing media landscape including ownership and control, licensing, trade practices/competition, sponsorships, intellectual property and other media regulatory issues, in particular concerning the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Australian Communications and Media Authority. We also advise on branding/masthead selection and protection.
