Leading Australian law firm, Mallesons Stephen Jaques, has donated $150,000 to SANE Australia, a national charity working for a better life for people affected by mental illness. The donation will go specifically towards the SANE Helpline.
The SANE Helpline is the only National Freecall mental illness Helpline providing information, advice and referral on a range of mental illnesses. It provides immediate assistance to callers about symptoms, treatments including medication, psychological and community support, as well as support and help for carers.
Mallesons has been a supporter of SANE Australia since 2004 through the firm’s Workplace Giving program, which enables partners and employees to make regular donations to their preferred charities.
SANE’s Executive Director, Barbara Hocking, thanked Mallesons for its support: “SANE relies completely on donations and grants and Mallesons’ donation is a very welcome boost to the Helpline. The funds will be used to improve the service across the board and will help a range of callers - from parents who are worried about their teenagers, to workmates concerned about colleagues, and people who would like advice about their own mental health.”
Mallesons’ Chief Executive Partner, Robert Milliner, presented the cheque to SANE Australia noting that “Mallesons is proud to support the continued efforts of the SANE Helpline in providing high quality, immediate assistance to callers.”
The SANE Helpline supported over 10,000 callers in 2006, answering questions and providing information and advice to people worried about mental illness.
