Mallesons Stephen Jaques was today named Leading organisation for the advancement of women (500+ employees) at the Business Achievement Awards issued by the Commonwealth Government's Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency.
The EOWA Business Achievement Awards highlight Australia’s business leaders and organisations at the forefront of driving change for a more equitable workplace. Mallesons was the only law firm nominated across any of the eight categories of awards.
Chief Executive Partner, Robert Milliner, said Mallesons was delighted to win this prestigious award, as it recognised the firm's long-term commitment to equity in the workplace, delivered through a range of programs and policies.
"I am proud of the firm's efforts over recent years in promoting and supporting the advancement of women, creating a culture of meritocracy and valuing diversity. This award is recognition of our commitment and investment in people," Mr Milliner said.
"Mallesons has always been focused on promoting the most qualified people based on merit, not gender. This not only ensures professional development opportunities for all staff, but means our clients are working with a firm where professional excellence is paramount."
Head of People & Development, Kate Rimer, added that: "The award recognises not just policies and programs but our ability to execute change and deliver business results for the firm. Our clients will continue to benefit from our ability to retain great talent and foster diversity."
In announcing the award, EOWA noted:
- Mallesons has a higher than industry average number of female partners (20%);
- 50% of Executive Directors and Directors are women;
- 63% of the firm’s management roles (excluding partners) are held by women and of these 20% are working part-time;
- several women’s networks have been established, including the Senior Mothers’ Network and the Women’s Business Network for women in senior roles;
- the Time in Lieu program to recognise and thank staff if they work additional hours;
- extension of the Swap Pay for Leave (48/52) Policy to all staff following a trial of staff with school age children.
