6 May 2008

Mallesons Stephen Jaques today congratulated partner, Emilios Kyrou, on his appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Victoria. The appointment was announced by the Victorian Attorney General, the Hon. Rob Hulls, and will become effective on 13 May 2008.

Mallesons' Chief Executive Partner, Robert Milliner, said the firm was delighted for Mr Kyrou and that the appointment recognised his expertise as a leader in the Victorian legal profession and one of Australia’s leading government law practitioners.

“Emilios’ outstanding technical legal skills, his diverse experience in litigation law and his role as a leader in Victorian administrative law, make him an excellent choice for this appointment,” Mr Milliner said.

“Emilios has made a significant contribution to Mallesons as a senior partner in the Dispute Resolution Group in our Melbourne office, with an extensive practice focused on commercial litigation and insurance law advice,” Mr Milliner said. “He has been highly valued at Mallesons and the firm will miss his contribution.”

Of his appointment Mr Kyrou said: “I am honoured and excited. During my 18 years as partner at Mallesons, I have worked with experts who are leaders in their fields as well as my good friends.”

“I have also worked with many bright young lawyers and have enjoyed seeing their careers flourish,” Mr Kyrou said.

Mr Kyrou is the author of a number of leading legal texts, is a commentator on law reform and has been a keen promoter of the firm’s Mallesons in the Community pro bono and charity programme.
