Alumni play a significant role in delivering on our aspiration to become Asia’s first global law firm. First, as former employees of the firm you have all played a role in getting us to where we are today. But the journey doesn’t end there – we see all of our alumni playing a central role in our future – from connecting us to new opportunities through to providing a much appreciated perspective on where we going.

2013 is a landmark year for the firm for a number of reasons. On 1 March, we celebrated our first anniversary as a global combination and brought 380 partners together in Singapore at our first global conference to set out and discuss the future direction of the firm and a chance for partners to build relationships across our network. We all left the conference feeling confident of the immense potential our global combination offers to us, and also to our clients.

In 2012, King & Wood Mallesons held a number of alumni functions in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Canberra and Hong Kong. These were extremely well attended and consistent feedback tells us that they are highly valued by alumni. In future, we will continue to look into new ways to engage with our alumni community, including our annual events in London and New York.

This year, I take over the helm of the firm’s alumni program and continue the fantastic work already undertaken by Tim Bednall. Tim’s work to reinvigorate the alumni program has helped us to reestablish many connections and grow an enviable network of over 2000 people across Australia and the Asian region.
