The investment landscape

Australia’s geographic proximity, wealth of attractive assets, political stability and predictable legal environment make it an attractive destination for China outbound investment.

In 2009, China became Australia’s second-largest source of foreign direct investment and Australia’s single largest export destination. China’s Ministry of Commerce has predicted that China’s foreign direct investment will reach a record US$100bn in 2011.

We have already seen significant investment in the mining, energy and resources sectors but China outbound investment is diversifying, with food, agriculture, chemical and technology sectors becoming desirable targets for outbound investment from China.

King & Wood Mallesons’ China Outbound team is at the forefront of these developments, advising clients in a number of industries on their investments into Australia.
