Fariba Aghili, Law Graduate, Dispute Resolution, Canberra

I decided to start as a graduate with Mallesons because I knew it would provide the best possible start to my career as a legal practitioner and I knew that what distinguished Mallesons from other firms was its people.

As a summer clerk, paralegal and now a graduate, I have seen how the people at Mallesons really are its strongest asset. They are friendly, experienced and exceptionally talented lawyers who are willing to offer their time to help juniors develop into outstanding legal practitioners. There is a real spirit of camaraderie, mutual support and teamwork among all the staff, which makes Mallesons a great environment to work in.

Starting as a graduate meant beginning in a new role with new challenges and opportunities to look forward to. In addition to the invaluable experience that two rotations promised, Mallesons showed that it takes the development of its graduates seriously by providing an in-house PLT program, a ‘buddy’ who is there for all the questions that invariably come up, a week long training program in Sydney, weekly seminars in cutting-edge areas of the law and more.

The Mallesons in the Community program provides plenty of opportunities to give back to the community, which was something that I valued and wanted to be involved in. I’ve already drafted pro bono legal advice to charities and not for profit organisations, and I’ve volunteered with community organisations. There are plenty of opportunities to kick-back and socialise with friends. Highlights in Canberra include the Mallesons Open tennis comp and the Mallesborough football team in the law week soccer comp.

Overall I’ve had a great start and look forward to what the rest of my graduate year at Mallesons has in store.
