Elizabeth McGill, Law Clerk, Mergers and Acquisitions, Sydney
In the 2007/2008 summer break, I started at Mallesons as a summer clerk. The firm was extremely flexible, allowing me to start my clerkship late due to overseas commitments. Despite the late start, I quickly became friends with the other clerks thanks to the endless social and sporting events organised. Attending training with lateral transfer lawyers also allowed me to make friends with lawyers at different career stages. With guidance from my supervising partner, my buddy and other young lawyers in the group, I really enjoyed my sole rotation in Mergers and Acquisitions. In particular, I appreciated the opportunity to attend client and in-house counsel meetings, which allowed me to better understand the deals we were working on.
Since the clerkship, I have continued working as a law clerk in M&A and I have commenced working in Construction. Working in these two very different groups, on both transactional and litigious matters, has allowed me to gain greater insight into the variety of the firm's practice areas and the depth of its people.
My experiences at Mallesons so far have been highly rewarding and I look forward to joining the firm as a Graduate in February 2009 after my exchange to Hamburg, Germany.
