People & Development

The People & Development team works closely with partners and managers to deliver an integrated strategy and first-class support across the full range of human resources. The Executive Director of People and Development reports directly to the CEP and is part of the executive management team of the firm. Our P&D strategy is developed in conjunction with partners and managers to ensure we are a leading employer and consistently attract, develop, engage and retain outstanding people.

We provide advice to all areas of the firm in relation to policies, recruitment and selection, learning and development, performance management, EEO & flexibility, remuneration and benefits. P&D has a number of major priorities for 2007 including:

  • Implement programs for those leading teams to strengthen coaching, delegation, recognition and feedback skills
  • Continuing to work with partners at a practice team level on initiatives to foster open, two-way communication around work, clients and people
  • Tailor ClientFirst initiatives to specific client and practice teams needs with a focus on client feedback and winning work
  • Educating teams about accessing our flexibility policies to assist in implementing successful flexible work arrangements
  • Support staff in accessing and utilising career development opportunities and resources

The team has three key parts. Operations, which sit with the practice teams in each centre and also supports shared services, Learning and Career Development, and Resourcing, Remuneration and Benefits. Each team has a senior manager who reports to the Executive Director P&D. The teams work closely together to develop and deliver pragmatic, high value, solutions tailored so the needs of teams and centres across the firm.

Our Operations teams are comprised of a team of HR practitioners who work with partners, managers and staff within a set of practice groups or shared services teams. This team provides day to day client facing human resources support and advice as well as managing our leave of absence and secondments process and project work. Their aim is to work with partners to attract outstanding new hires, enhance the performance of individuals and teams and retain and develop key talent.

Our Learning & Career Development team design, develop, coordinate and deliver a range of education programs, courses and seminars to address the needs of partners, lawyers, shared services and support. Their aim is to focus on people development and business development skills in the context of the demands of a professional services environment.

The Resourcing, Remunerations & Benefits team which is based predominantly in Sydney and Melbourne provide support and guidance to the firm in the areas of recruitment and selection, workforce planning, reporting and analysis, OH&S, relocations and visas and managing remuneration and benefits programs. This team is focused on delivering tools, processes, and advice that add value to our resourcing strategy and maximise the value of total remuneration and rewards for employees.
