Australia

Australia has a population of 20 million, and despite the country's vastness, the majority of the population lives within an hour of the coast. Central to Australia's identity is a sense of connection to the outdoors - the red soil of the Northern Territory, the fiercely protected rainforests of Tasmania, the breathtaking beauty of the Great Barrier Reef and the iconic golden sands of Bondi Beach.

Australia boasts a wealth of artistic talent and embraces a vibrant multiculturalism. World famous festivals, a healthy mix of the high arts and the avant garde, and the creative exuberance of a young nation add up to a calendar packed with events that are challenging and entertaining.

Sport is a common and much-encouraged pastime, with an equal emphasis placed on the ability to play the game and the ability to discuss the finer points over a drink at the local. Mallesons' lawyers compete with their colleagues in a range of sporting events, including lunchtime football, basketball, netball, triathlons, and skiing competitions.

Australia's close proximity to Asia and New Zealand makes it an ideal base for those looking to spend a few years working in and exploring the Asia Pacific region.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong has a population of 7 million people and is one of the most exciting places in the world to work and live. It is a city of contrasts and contradictions - at once a traditional Chinese city, a former British colony, and a monument to commerce and capitalism.

Hong Kong is a visually beautiful city with much to recommend. The infrastructure is outstanding, with a transport network that ensures effortless movement throughout the city. The shopping in Causeway Bay is world renowned, and Wan Chai is famous for its restaurants and nightlife. While towering office buildings compete for dominance of the skyline, rising above it all is Victoria Peak, an upmarket residential district and an oasis of public gardens and parks.

If you want to explore the Asia Pacific, Hong Kong is an ideal place to work. Popular tourist destinations such as Thailand, Vietnam, India and Bali are a short flight away.

China

China has a population of 1.3 billion people, and has experienced remarkable economic growth in recent times. Much of this growth has been driven by foreign investment, and China’s prominence in world trade continues to rise.

This rapid growth is what makes China such an exciting country to work in. Shanghai has been described as the world’s biggest construction site, with futuristic buildings reminiscent of The Jetsons competing for dominance of the skyline. Beijing is in a similar building frenzy as it prepares for the 2008 Olympics and the global attention that the Olympics will bring.

China is the third largest country in the world and its climate and terrain is extremely diverse, with a tropical south and sub arctic north, and snow capped mountains towering over expansive deserts. It is physically beautiful and culturally rich, with over 5000 years of history.
