Pro bono advice

We provide free legal advice and representation to needy individuals, not for profit organisations and our community partners. We believe that giving pro bono advice to the disadvantaged is part of fulfilling our professional responsibility. We value this contribution by our lawyers so highly that we record their time spent on pro bono work as billable.

What are the benefits of our pro bono work?

  • For disadvantaged individuals, our pro bono advice may be the only assistance open to them if legal aid is unavailable.
  • Our pro bono advice enables our community partners and other not for profit organisations to concentrate their resources on directly helping recipients of their support rather than spending money on legal fees.
  • We recognise that providing pro bono legal assistance gives our own people invaluable insights and experience - practising areas of law and working with clients not normally within the scope of our commercial work.

Over 100 of our legal and non-legal staff are involved in pro bono outreach clinics in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Some of our lawyers volunteer at refugee and immigration centres, others participate in youth legal advice sessions.

For more details of our pro bono advice and representation see the Mallesons in the Community Annual Reports.
