Community Partners

We are able to achieve our charitable objectives by working closely with a number of key charitable organisations.

The Australian Red Cross and The Smith Family have been our national community partners since 2001. Our state-specific community partners are: Abused Child Trust, Barnardos, Housing Choices Australia, Ted Noffs Foundation and Urban Seed.

Mallesons' work with the Red Cross

We have acted as honorary solicitors to the Australian Red Cross since one month after its inception in Australia in 1914.

We provide the Australian Red Cross with pro bono advice, donations and support a number of volunteering activities. We have also developed a number of programs with the Red Cross through our International Humanitarian Law Partnership, including the Humanitarian Law Perspectives project, which is comprised each year of a national signature seminar series and a number of substantive research papers written by Mallesons staff. You can read more about this project here.

In addition, Mallesons is the corporate sponsor of the Red Cross’ IHL Magazinea bi-annual publication focusing on issues of international humanitarian law. Our staff contribute substantive articles to the magazine and also edit articles prepared by academics and other individuals.

Mallesons' work with The Smith Family

Our relationship with The Smith Family has evolved beyond the traditional philanthropic and sponsorship model to a relationship of interdependence, allowing both partners to work closely together to achieve mutual goals. The breadth and depth of the partnership has provided staff in all of our Australian centres with opportunities for legal and non-legal engagement.

Over the course of our ten year partnership, Mallesons has provided over 7,000 hours of pro bono legal work, donated more than $600,000 and over 1,700 Mallesons staff members have volunteered in support of The Smith Family, including for its Christmas Toy and Book Appeal.
