Since its inception in 2001, our Mallesons in the Community program has provided a way of directing Mallesons’ ongoing pro bono and charitable work to meet the common values and goals of our staff.
Mallesons' specific charitable targets are to:
Our Mallesons in the Community (MIC) program involves a range of initiatives to support members of our community who are most in need and the organisations that assist them.
Through MIC, Mallesons staff from both legal and non-legal teams have the opportunity to assist with pro bono advice, support our Workplace Giving program and participate in volunteer activities.
Our program is underpinned by community partnerships with not-for-profit organisations whose work corresponds with our charitable targets. Our Australia-wide community partners are the Australian Red Cross and The Smith Family.
Our MIC program is overseen by the MIC Board. Each Mallesons centre has a Pro Bono and Charities Committee to initiate and organise community projects, as well as a pro bono partner and a pro bono coordinator.
Our MIC program also extends to our international
offices, where we are involved with a number of community projects. For example, our London centre has participated in the Lawyers in Schools program with the Citizenship Foundation since 2007. This scheme is designed to foster an awareness of legal rights and responsibilities amongst young people in economically disadvantaged areas, as a way of dealing with broader social problems. Our Hong Kong office has also been involved with a number of projects in recent years, including:
Helping establish Opportunity International Hong Kong
Providing financial and legal support to Hong Kong Red Cross in response to the Sichuan earthquakes
Volunteering with the TREATS program to provide support for young people facing social difficulties.
