Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
The IPCC was established by the World Meteorological Organization and UNEP to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. The IPCC’s Second Assessment Report, Climate Change 1995, provided key input to the negotiations, which led to the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC in 1997.

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
In 1994, this International Treaty entered into force with the aim to reduce global warming. The Kyoto Protocol, an addition to the Treaty, sets legally binding target for emission reductions on those nations which have ratified it.
