The M&A market rebounded in the last 12 months, with renewed investor confidence and a desire by large corporations to expand. Our team advised on many of the biggest deals in the last 18 months, including advising AXA Asia Pacific Limited on bids by AMP and National Australia Bank for its Australian and New Zealand businesses and AXA SA for its Asian businesses, Goldcorp’s acquisition of Andean Resources Ltd, and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board’s acquisition of Intoll Group.
With China’s demand for raw resources, interest in Australia’s energy and resources sector remains very strong, and our team have played a key role in recent years in many of the most significant deals involving Chinese investors, including the world’s largest LNG gas sale to Chinese interests and Hunan Valin’s investment in Fortescue Mining. In these transactions, our clients benefited from our strength across key disciplines, and the ability to bring together the right team for the project across the region. Our strong sector experience and track record with regulators was important on these deals, as assisted these clients with Australia’s foreign investment regime.
Clients also look to our broad experience in assisting to craft innovative structures and solutions to help them with their global joint ventures, sales, acquisitions and internalisations across sectors.
Working closely with senior management and the Boards of some of Australia’s largest and most respected corporations, we advise on all areas of corporate governance to manage the company’s legal, regulatory and commercial risks.
