At the forefront of Australian Public Private Partnership developments, King & Wood Mallesons has been involved in the majority of Australian PPP projects.

Our recent experience includes:

  • The financiers to the Q Port Holdings Consortium on the Queensland Government’s $2.3b sale of Port of Brisbane
  • ABN AMRO and Thiess as sponsors on their successful bid and closing of the Royal North Shore Hospital PPP, involving complex and large scale funding in the midst of the difficult market times
  • Senior ECA supported financiers and the mezzanine financiers, on the Victorian Desalination Plant PPP (PPP Deal of the Year and Global Deal of the Year - 2009 Infrastructure Journal awards, Financial Excellence - 2010 Infrastructure Partnerships Australia National Infrastructure Awards, and PPP Deal of the Year - 2009 Project Finance International Awards)
  • Australian National University on four stages of a multi million dollar student accommodation development, which included the ACT's first two PPPs and is part of a $600m agreement signed between the ANU and Baulderstone Hornibrook
  • Pinnacle Education SA Consortium (including Commonwealth Bank Investments and Hansen & Yuncken) on its successful bid for the Education Works “New Schools” PPP project that was put to tender by the South Australian Government
  • Southern Way consortium (The Royal Bank of Scotland, Abigroup and Bilfinger Berger) on the Peninsula Link PPP
  • Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi as the financier and the swap provider to the consortium led by Plenary Group in its successful bid for the Barwon Water Biosolids Management Project, which was put out to tender by the Victorian Government
  • Deutsche Bank AG in the $237m financing for Plenary Group in connection with the Commonwealth Defence Force housing (Single LEAP) PPP
  • Deutsche Bank AG in relation to the financing, construction and development of living accommodation for single members of the Australian Defence Forces at Amberley, Enoggera and Holsworthy bases in Queensland and New South Wales, and the provisions of hard and soft facilities maintenance services to those facilities
  • RiverCity Motorway Consortium in its appointment as preferred bidder to the Brisbane City Council for the $1.9b North South Bypass Tunnel PPP. The project is a Public Private Partnership between the council and RCM for a 4 lane toll road involving a 4.7 km tunnel.
