Overview

The Applied Legal Technology practice support group specialises in providing services to our clients by applying a combination of leading technology tools and sound information management expertise.

Our international team consists of lawyers, database administrators, information technology professionals, analysts, project managers and paralegals. The diversity of the team’s professional backgrounds ensures that best practice services are delivered and that innovation is applied using a broad spectrum of perspectives. The depth of experience and commitment in the Mallesons team is unequalled.

The services are used in corporate transactions, contract negotiations through to contract management and in many aspects of dispute resolution. The firm is committed to leveraging strategic economic value for our clients through this leading results driven team.

Customised technology and associated services can take many forms. For example in finance, property and corporate transactions we have specifically developed an online tool (known as MatterWeb) which is used to enable interested parties to collaborate on deals and access secured document collections on a 24x7 basis. The tool additionally has specific functionality to support online due diligence, for example access to real time reporting to analyse and review activity and interest in an asset.

The group's most established service is dispute or litigation support. For many years, the firm has embraced sophisticated tools to interrogate and analyse client and opponent information. These tools are designed to integrate efficiently with our client's physical business records, emails and electronic files. The group has been very active in its participation in the development of both industry and court standards in the evolving area of electronic discovery.

Mallesons has implemented technology to reduce the time taken to review potentially relevant information in electronic discovery. As the only Australian law firm to have an installation of a highly effective electronic review tool, Mallesons’ clients are provided with a unique offering to a complex and often expensive problem.

The emphasis of the Applied Legal Technology group is to enable Mallesons’ lawyers to work smarter with digital tools to achieve optimum results for the firm's clients.

“The Applied Legal Technology Group…display a clear understanding of complex technical issues, a willingness to embrace new ideas and technology.”
