“Mallesons remains the “premier property practice in Australia,” according to widespread market sources. It is “firing on all cylinders,” and the 24 partners are “strongly supported” by 60 lawyers. It provides a full service to clients by enlisting technical expertise from across the firm, including construction, environment, tax and stamp duty.”
Chambers Global Guide 2008
“Mallesons Stephen Jaques had a strong year, reaping the benefits of the retirement village boom in advising AMP Capital Investors on a joint venture with Meridien Retirement Living, under which AMP acquired a 50% stake in a portfolio of retirement villages worth around A$600-A$700m. The group advised Walker Corporation on its sale of a A$1.2bn property and business portfolio to Mirvac, acted for Carlton Hotels on its A$328m sale of hotels in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and assisted Telstra in finalising a 50,000m2, 10-year leasing agreement, the largest leasing arrangement ever in Brisbane, with property developer Charter Hall. Leading individual David Colenso was recently recruited from Deacons.”

“Mallesons has profited from a buoyant real estate market in 2007 in both Australia and Hong Kong. With strong planning, environmental and tax capabilities, the firm can advise on a wide-range of issues. However, its advice is not confined geographically to where it has a physical presence. The firm has a very active Singapore REITs practice, while also project managing major offshore acquisitions by Australian A-REITs. In Hong Kong, the focus has traditionally been more on construction and infrastructure projects, which has led it to capitalise on the booming construction and property market in neighbouring Macau. Strong arbitration capability also sees it advising on regional construction disputes.”
