We have a strong insurance law practice, supported by our team’s longstanding relationship with various local and international general and life insurers, their reinsurers and leading intermediaries.
Our insurance practice is divided into a litigation practice and a separate corporate and regulatory insurance advisory practice. The litigation practice has a principal focus on the areas of professional indemnity, directors’ and officers’ liabilities, medical malpractice, product liability, public liability, life and disability insurance as well as reinsurance. We have established a good reputation because of our highly pragmatic approach to resolving disputes always driven by a strong commercial focus.
Our corporate and regulatory insurance advisory lawyers advise and act on all aspects of regulatory and business law relevant to insurers and intermediaries operating in Australia. This includes advising and acting in relation to new products, regulatory aspects, tax, compliance, the insurance code of practice, claims procedures and protocols, alternative risk structures and captives and the acquisition or sale of insurance entities both locally and internationally.
This and our ability to find innovative solutions has enabled us to work on high profile insurance matters since the 1990s. We acted for AMP in its acquisition and then its disposal of GIO. We also acted for NRMA on it successful demutualisation and then on its evolution into IAG, including its acquisition of CGU.
Our team includes some of Australia’s leading insurance lawyers, notably Peter Stockdale, Robyn Chalmers and Emilios Kyrou.
