Mallesons recognised as leader in corporate finance

Mallesons Stephen Jaques’ leadership position in corporate finance has this year been recognised by a number of independent industry awards, confirming the firm’s pre-eminent position in related areas of practice.

Early this year Mallesons was named Australian Financial Law Firm of the Year at FinanceAsia’s inaugural Australian Achievement Awards. FinanceAsia has recently increased its focus on Australia due to the ‘dedication to innovation’ by firms and issuers.

Following on from this achievement, Mallesons was awarded top position in five categories at the inaugural Asiamoney Awards: Banking and Finance, Capital Markets, M&A, Securitisation and Structured Finance. In addition, Mallesons received acknowledgment as legal adviser involved in three deal awards: Deal of the Year (Shearwater); Project Finance Deal of the Year (Western Sydney Orbital); and Syndicated Loan of the Year (Western Sydney Orbital).

For the second year in a row, Mallesons has been presented with INSTO’s Law Firm of the Year award at the 5th Annual Distinction Awards. This is only the second time the award has been presented.

INSTO editorial analysis sums up the firm’s success: ‘The year was huge for Mallesons, which was involved in a number of the market’s major hybrid, equity and debt deals.

‘A strong client relationship is the backbone of Mallesons’ years of financial services experience. The law firm has an established history but has also adapted over time to develop services according to the changing needs of its clients and the markets.’

Head of Financial Services, David Olsson, said: “These awards are a recognition of our integrated team approach to providing innovative solutions to the increasingly complex matters that arise in this area of practice. We appreciate our clients’ continued support of the firm in giving the Financial Services team the opportunity to work on the top deals.”

Partner, David Storr commented on Asiamoney’s acknowledgment of Project Shearwater as Deal of the Year: “Shearwater is an example of a dedicated team of lawyers working collaboratively with the client, utilising the firm’s capability across offices to achieve a high level of success on a deal that was particularly complex to structure and implement.”

In conclusion, partner John Sullivan said: “With a line-up of partners including David Friedlander, Michael Herring, Susan Hilliard, Yuen-Yee Cho, Dominic Bortoluzzi, Mark Upfold and Rowan Russell, combined with the M&A, Equity Capital Markets, Debt Capital Markets and Project Finance teams, the firm worked relentlessly and in unison across practice teams to produce the best results for the client.”
