Mallesons advises AMP on Indian Infrastructure Fund

Mallesons Stephen Jaques has acted for AMP Capital Investors on the establishment of and US$102 million capital raising for The Infrastructure Fund of India. The Fund invests in businesses involved in the development, ownership or operation of infrastructure in India.

The Fund is managed by AMP Capital out of Singapore and has a range of Australian, Asian and multilateral investors.

According to AMP Capital Investors Head of Infrastructure, Phil Garling, this is a significant initiative for AMP Capital Investors as it seeks to expand its Indian infrastructure business and capitalise on significant investment opportunities there and elsewhere in the region.

The Fund's establishment and financing is governed by English law and meets market standards for international investment funds. In acting on this matter, Mallesons successfully negotiated and prepared all documentation, participated in the Fund's due diligence steering committee, coordinated Mauritian and Indian advisers and gave legal opinions on both English and Australian law matters.

Lead partner John Sullivan said: "Mallesons continues to grow with its clients and expand its leading role in emerging markets. In this matter, we achieved a successful outcome for AMP Capital by combining our extensive capabilities in capital raising, cross-border investment funds and M&A with strong project management skills and English and Australian law capability. With the firm having worked with AMP since 1853, we were also able to draw on our deep knowledge of the organisation and its requirements."

In leading this matter, John Sullivan was assisted by solicitor Natalie Kurdian.
