Mallesons wins at 2008 Asian M&A Awards

16 October 2008

Mallesons Stephen Jaques has been named Legal Adviser of the Year for Energy, Mining and Utilities in the inaugural Financial Times-Mergermarket M&A Awards Asia 2008.

Mallesons is one of only two Australian firms to be recognised in the awards, which acknowledge excellence in M&A practice across the corporate, private equity, banking and legal sectors in the Asia-Pacific region.

Mallesons’ M&A partner Greg Golding welcomed the award as a reflection of the firm’s consistent hard work within the energy and resources industries.

“During 2008 the resources sector has contributed significantly to Australia’s strong economic performance relative to other western economies,” Mr Golding said.

“Energy and resources have great regional importance for Australia, particularly given our relationship with China. Mallesons’ strong Asian capability enables us to provide clients across the region with practical, multi-jurisdictional advice. It is gratifying for us to have this expertise recognised by the Awards,” he said.

Winners of the Awards were selected by Financial Times editors and a judging panel of M&A experts, using both empirical transaction data and an independent assessment of the strategic and financial aspects of the entrants’ M&A deals.

Mallesons’ work in energy and resources has also been recognised this year with the practice being ranked in tier one by several legal directories including Chambers Global, PLC Which lawyer? and Asia Pacific Legal 500.
