  • Alan Murray is a Partner in our Perth office where he specialises in corporate and resources work, acting principally for oil and gas and mining companies.

    His experience includes drafting and advising on sale and purchase agreements, farm-in and joint venture documentation, mining contracts, construction contracts, State Agreements and other resource-related documentation and also dealing with environment, native title and stamp duty issues.

    Alan has been listed as a leading individual for Energy, Mining, Natural Resources and Oil and Gas in Best Lawyers 2012.

  • Acting for a bidder in relation to the acquisition of nickel assets and a financier in relation to the sale of gold assets in Western Australia
  • Acting for Mitsui on the acquisition of a 40% interest in the Enfield Project and associated acreage, including due diligence investigation of FPSO construction and other project development documentation;
  • Part of a project team working on the Gorgon Liquefied Natural Gas Project;
  • Advising joint venture operators in relation to a wide range of issues concerning Australian oil and gas assets;
  • Acting for Chevron on the internal reorganisation of ownership of the Australian assets of the Chevron group and the creation of an Australasian Single Business Unit, including assuming operatorship of a number of oil and gas joint ventures from WAPET;
  • Advising Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd as manager of the Worsley bauxite/alumina project, including advising on interaction with the Boddington Gold Mine and acting in relation to its cogeneration arrangements at the Worsley Alumina refinery;
  • Acting in relation to a consortium bid to build, own and operate the Guangdong LNG terminal and pipeline project;
  • Drafting and advising on farmins and farmouts involving onshore and offshore petroleum titles, including farmins to three joint ventures offshore West Africa and to interests offshore New Zealand;
  • Drafting and advising on the farmout of an interest in a gold project in Kalimantan;
  • Acting on the sale of a 56% interest in the Worsley Alumina Joint Venture.
  • Acting on the sale of the WAPET-operated North Perth Basin oil and gas business and associated pipeline;
  • Acting on the sale of a 40% interest in the Boddington Gold Mine and the restructuring and sale of the vendor’s other Australian gold interests;
  • Drafting and advising on contracts for the construction of gas-fired power stations in Alice Springs and Queensland;
  • Advising in relation to contracts for the supply and transportation of gas through the GGT pipeline and a lateral pipeline to a gold processing plant;
  • Drafting and advising on agreements for the production, project management, sale and shipment of salt;
  • Drafting and advising BHP Billiton on major iron ore mining contracts;
  • Drafting and advising on mining contracts from the point of view of both mine owners and contractors.
