 Professional Biography

 
  • Hal Bolitho is a partner in our Melbourne office where he works mainly in project and structured finance, corporate finance and privatisation. He has experience in acting for sponsors and financiers in energy, infrastructure, aircraft and shipping projects and international financing. From 1997 to 1999, he worked on secondment in the Project Finance Group in the Tokyo office of international law firm Allen & Overy.

  • Acting on the Qantas French cross border lease for 3 Airbus 330 aircraft with ECA supported finance and commercial loans (acting for Societe Generale). This transaction was selected as one of the 2002 "Deals of the Year" by Asset Finance International.
  • Acting for Allco Finance Group Limited in structuring and documenting the refinancing of 6 aircraft (in separate transactions) to be operated by Qantas Airways Limited using different tranches of secured senior, mezzanine and subordinated debt raised in domestic and offshore markets.
  • Acting for Connex in restructuring its Rolling Stock financing arrangements in connection with its award of the new franchise for Melbourne Metropolitan Rail Services.
  • Acting for Commerzbank and China Construction Bank as arrangers of the Qantas financing for 2 Boeing 747-400ER Aircraft.
  • Rail privatisation - acting for the syndicate of banks which financed Toll Holdings' and Lang Corporation's acquisition of the above-rail assets of FreightCorp and National Rail Corporation
  • Pasminco - acting for the senior financiers (both domestic and foreign) in relation to the administration of the Pasminco group of companies.
  • Advising numerous lenders, aircraft lessors and receivers in relation to Ansett.
  • Numerous Project and Structured Financings for National Australia Bank Limited (including IT projects, transport projects, unit trust financings, research and development syndicates) 1993 - 1996, 2000 to date.
  • Acting for the Export Import Bank of Japan (now the Japan Bank for International Cooperation) in lending to the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China for construction of a thermal power station, 1998.
  • Acting for the Export Import Bank of Japan on various finance leases of oil platforms and oil storage facilities to the Brazilian national petroleum company Petrobras, 1998-99.
  • Acting for the Export Import Bank of Japan in relation to loans to various Hong Kong railway corporations for the acquisition of new rolling stock, 1999.
  • Acting for the Export Import Bank of Japan as financier to the construction, purchase and charter of a natural gas carrier for use by the Korean natural gas company Kogas, 1999
  • Numerous other international finance transactions for the Export Import Bank of Japan, 1997-1999.
  • Acting for a syndicate of Japanese companies providing finance to the State Bank of Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan to finance a chemical processing plant, 1998.
