Kim O’Connell is a Partner in the Sydney office of Mallesons Stephen Jaques where she specialises in intellectual property law and related areas of trade practices and consumer protection.
Kim’s focus on intellectual property includes protection, enforcement and exploitation of intellectual property rights. She has handled a wide range of intellectual property litigation involving copyright, trade mark and patent infringement and revocation actions. She is also experienced in advising clients on enforcement in the related areas of passing off, misuse of confidential information and the Trade Practices Act.
Kim has consistently been listed as a leading patent litigation lawyer by Best Lawyers International since its first Australian survey in 2008. She has also been recognised in the area of IP (non-patent) litigation by PLC’s Which Lawyer? Since 2010 she has been listed as a recommended patent lawyer in Asia IP and in the area of Life Sciences by the Asia Pacific Legal 500. She is listed in the International Who’s Who of Patent Lawyers and in IAM’s Patent Litigation 250.
Kim has extensive experience of patent disputes and has represented clients in matters involving inventions in the fields of telephony, internet security, electronic payments and engineering, as well as medical devices, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals. She is also experienced in advising clients on commercialisation and licence agreements, R&D agreements, technology transfer agreements, partnering and investment arrangements.
