 Professional Biography

 
  • Michael Barker is a Partner in our Sydney office where he specialises in private equity, venture capital and M&A transactions. His clients include private equity funds and listed and unlisted corporate groups, both domestic and offshore. Mike's expertise also covers equity capital fundraisings, corporate governance, employee share plans, reconstructions and joint ventures.

    Mike has 20 years' private equity and M&A transaction experience, both in Australia and internationally, including in the UK with leading London law firm Travers Smith. He emigrated with his family to Australia in 2000. He also has UK chartered accounting experience with PwC in London.

    Both PLC Which Lawyer? and Chambers & Partners legal directories rate Mike as a leading private equity lawyer for Australia. In an ALB Guide to Private Equity, clients said Mike was "measured in his approach, pragmatic, interacted well with team members, 'did not get caught up in a ditch of irrelevancies', had a good manner...". Chambers comments about Mike "He has high technical knowledge and is one of the best younger lawyers in the market".
