 Professional Biography

 
  • Michelle is King & Wood Mallesons' Legal Logistics Director and leads our Legal Project Management services, Applied Legal Technology and Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) functions. Her portfolio of work provides our legal practice with cutting-edge tools, skills and processes to ensure King & Wood Mallesons is able to continuously deliver service excellence to our clients, in a changing business environment.

    A powerful example of Michelle's expertise and ability to drive transformational change, is her work in designing and leading the delivery of the first Australian legal project management methodology and training program, for a law firm.

    Michelle is able to draw from a wealth of experience in project management, including successfully managing complex cross-border multi-party engagements which have resulted in exceptional outcomes for her clients.

    Additionally, Michelle has established our legal outsourcing service; creating a preferred supplier agreement with a global LPO provider, which is another first for the Australian legal market.

    Michelle is able to also provide reactive advice to clients in the areas of dispute and regulatory readiness and is focussed on ensuring the best approach is applied to drive the right outcomes.

    As an internationally recognised industry expert, Michelle has an extensive background in designing, implementing and managing technology solutions for some of the largest litigation cases and corporate transactions in the region. In a legal technology career commencing in 1989, Michelle has generated a global reputation for her strategic skills in project management, risk management, and her ability to combine law with technology and business, to deliver innovative and effective results. Through her career she has also focussed on introducing effective change to legal practice through the introduction of technology initiatives such as databases, imaging, electronic discovery, and virtual data rooms.

    Michelle's expertise extends to roles on judicial committees and US electronic discovery industry advisory boards. She has been awarded the title of Associate Fellow (AFAIM) through the Australian Institute of Management and has been recognised in the Global Tech Leaders Top 100 as a "world class legal tech law firm leader". Michelle was also awarded by the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) their ‘Practice Management Champion in 2010.

    Michelle has played active roles on various drafting committees releasing e-litigation Practice Notes in various jurisdictions in Australia and sits on a Peer Group Steering Committee for the International Legal Technology Association.

    She also serves on a number of advisory boards including Law Technology News Editorial Board and the LegalTech Advisory Board and is a Client Advisory Board Member for Intralinks; a leading virtual data room technology vendor. Michelle also serves as a Client Stakeholder Board Member for FTI Ringtail; a leading document management technology company.

  • Michelle has a diverse body of work which includes training and education programs for the judiciary, authoring technology standards for commissions, contributing to the drafting of numerous Supreme Court Practice Notes, making recommendations for technology standards in multi party disputes, designing and implementing technology solutions to manage corporate information and contracts, developing an industry-wide job sizing framework, designing virtual data room solutions, implementing one of the most efficient electronic discovery methodologies and advising corporations on how to respond to regulatory notices, investigations and electronic discovery obligations.
