Professional biography
Ian Johnson is a partner in our Canberra office where he practises in commercial dispute resolution, workplace and employment law, administrative law and insurance. He also provides general corporate and commercial advice to a number of federal and ACT government agencies.
Ian is part of Mallesons' national Workplace and Employee Relations group. He advises government and private employers across a range of workplace-related matters, including executive employment agreements, unfair dismissal and redundancy, OH&S and discrimination. He also advises government departments and agencies on statutory interpretation, FOI and privacy issues.
His litigation experience includes High Court, Federal and Supreme Court disputes, Administrative Decisions (Judicial Review) Act matters, discrimination complaints before the Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Commission and coronial inquiries. His government clients include Austrade, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
Ian has wide experience in the industrial accident, public liability and professional liability areas, acting for major insurers including Allianz, Zurich and the ACT Workers' Compensation Supplementation Fund. He advises insurers across a range of policy types, providing strategic and policy advice in relation to claims management.
