Professional biography
Judy Sullivan is a partner specialising in both direct and indirect taxation, with a particular focus on disputes with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). She has more than 20 years of experience providing taxation advice and assistance in both the legal and accounting environment.
Judy has provided advice and representation to major clients in both the public and private sector. Her clients include multinational corporations and a number of Commonwealth Government departments and agencies.
Judy has a wealth of expertise in taxation audits, negotiations and disputes, including mediation and litigation. She is well-regarded by the tax bar and has conducted significant taxation litigation on behalf of her clients in the AAT, Federal Court and the High Court covering both direct and indirect tax. She has provided advice and ongoing assistance to many clients who have been involved in major taxation audits and ATO reviews and has negotiated settlements or resolutions of many such disputes. She also participated in an extensive 2 year mediation process of a major area of dispute with the ATO.
In addition, Judy advises on corporate taxation and structuring, GST, tax administration and employment taxes (PAYG, ETPs, FBT, superannuation guarantee).
Judy won the NSW Law Society Award in 2000 for her work with pro bono clients in relation to taxation charity matters. She has established many national charities and foundations and assisted a number of other charities in relation to taxation matters.
Judy recently co-presented a Mallesons seminar titled 'CPRS - The Tax Dimension'.
