 Professional Biography

 
  • John Malon is a Partner in the Mergers and Acquisitions practice in the Melbourne office of Mallesons Stephen Jaques. He advises a wide range of participants in the funds management and financial services industries.

    He is a specialist in the development and enhancement of financial products, including property trusts and other managed funds, superannuation, life insurance and IDPS products. His areas of practice include initial public offerings, private equity arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory advice and investigations and distribution arrangements for a wide range of financial products, including e-commerce.

    John is involved in all aspects of product development, including structuring issues and the preparation of disclosure documentation. Over the past decade he has acted on significant mergers and acquisitions involving the funds management industry, as well as various major regulatory investigations.

  • Establishment and offer of managed investment schemes and other financial products (including property trusts) for a range of clients including Grocon, MLC/NAB, Challenger, BlackRock, Equity Trustees, OFM and Legg Mason, Vanguard, AXA Australia and Portfolio Partners
  • Advised a number of offshore issuers in relation to the offer of their products and services in Australia
  • Acted for Victorian Funds Management Limited in relation to a range of alternative asset and infrastructure investments
  • Acted on a number of regulatory investigations conducted by ASIC and APRA
  • Advised AXA Australia in relation to the outsourcing of the custody and administration of its statutory funds, managed investment schemes and superannuation assets
  • Advised PaperlinX and Dyno Nobel in relation to recent hybrid offering
  • Advised ING in relation to the acquisition of Citistreet
  • Advised Citigroup in relation to the sale of its asset management business to Legg Mason
