California introduces Electronic Transactions Act

The US State of California has introduced a new Act designed to give records and signatures created electronically the same legal effect as written records and signatures for many common transactions. Certain transactions including those involving mortgages or liens on vehicles are not covered by the Act so as to allow for greater consumer protections and legal documents such as those creating a will or trust are also excluded by the Act.
