Update: South East Asia and Pacific embracing ICSID

The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (“ICSID”) releases updated profiles and statistics of the ICSID caseloads biannually as well as historical statistics of cases registered or administered by ICSID.

The latest ICSID caseload statistical report, covering the period from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011, confirms that countries in South East Asia and the Pacific are embracing ICSID as a forum for settling international disputes.

South East Asia and the Pacific accounted for 16% of the distribution of new ICSID cases registered in the 2011 financial year.  In comparison, for the same period last year, South East Asia and the Pacific accounted for only 7%.  This represents a significant increase in ICSID cases in one year involving countries in South East Asia and the Pacific and is reflective of the growth of international arbitration work in the region.
