Clark to succeed Milliner as Chair of the Large Law Firm Group

The Large Law Firm Group (LLFG) comprising leading international and regional law firms, today (29/11/11) announced that Stuart Clark, from Clayton Utz will succeed Robert Milliner as this influential group’s Chairman.

Robert Milliner Chief Executive Partner, Mallesons Stephen Jaques held the inaugural role for five years, and was the driving force behind a number of changes and lobbying to Government and regulators regarding the practice of corporate law in Australia. 

The LLFG’s principal focus is the drive for an integrated Law Council of Australia (LCA) as the umbrella organisation for Australia’s legal profession and for reform of the national legal profession.  The LLFG believes that a common approach across all Australian jurisdictions will deliver benefits to business which will flow through to the broader Australian community. 

Robert Milliner said: "It has been a privilege to work with my colleagues amongst the large law firms on the further development of the Australian legal profession.  I am looking forward to the implementation of the National Legal Profession Reform project after the legislation is passed next year and to the ongoing development of the Law Council of Australia as the peak body representing Australia's lawyers."

Stuart Clark is the Chief Operating Officer and Managing Partner, International at Clayton Utz and an Adjunct Professor with Macquarie University Law School.

On his appointment he said: "I am pleased to have the opportunity of continuing to pursue the LLFG’s reform agenda.   Over the coming months the LLFG will be working with government, the profession and the business community to ensure the successful implementation of the national legal profession reform package."

Tony O’Malley, Managing Partner, Mallesons Stephen Jaques will represent Mallesons on the LLFG.
