In addition to being the only Australian wind farm to be project financed without an off-take contract in place, the project also contains an innovative mechanism for upsizing the facility size when an eligible off-take contract is entered into.
The Woodlawn Wind Farm is located near Canberra, adjacent to Infigen Energy’s 140.7 megawatt Capital Wind Farm.
Construction of the Woodlawn Wind Farm is well progressed and is on-track to be completed in the second half of 2011. Infigen has announced that electricity has already been successfully exported to the Grid from some of the turbines.
The Woodlawn Wind Farm will provide enough renewable energy annually to power approximately 23,000 homes.
The Mallesons team was led by partner Scott Gardiner and Vishal Ahuja, together with Peter Staciwa and Catherine Arscott, from the Energy, Resources and Projects Team.
“We were delighted to have worked with Infigen on the project and debt financing sides of the Woodlawn Project. The integrated connection and facility upsizing arrangements presented some interesting challenges which all parties ultimately resolved in a commercially acceptable manner”, said Gardiner in a statement.
