King & Wood Mallesons' Hong Kong dispute resolution team boosts its insurance litigation practice with lateral hire

King & Wood Mallesons has confirmed the appointment of Senior Associate, Kieran Humphrey, to the firm’s Hong Kong office, where Kieran will focus on continuing to grow the firm’s insurance litigation practice together with partner Denis Brock.

Kieran has been based in Hong Kong since 2008 and joins King & Wood Mallesons from Allens Arthur Robinson, where he was a Senior Associate. Kieran has acted on some of Asia’s largest corporate, financial lines and specialty insurance claims.  This includes the full-limit claims made by Hong Kong and Singapore banks arising from the alleged mis-selling of Lehman Brothers Minibonds and similar structured investment products, US class actions against PRC and Hong Kong companies, product liability matters, large-scale fraud, regulatory investigations and major Asian litigation against public companies. Kieran has also advised leading insurers on contentious and non-contentious regulatory matters across Asia. He is admitted to practice in Hong Kong, Australia, England and Wales.

“Understanding the business needs of our clients is critical and it is our priority to help them tailor the necessary legal solutions to their problems. This is achievable with a leading team and we are delighted to have Kieran joining us to expand and further develop our insurance practice on-the-ground in Hong Kong”, commented Brock.

The growth of the insurance litigation practice supports King & Wood Mallesons’ overall offering in the insurance sector which comprises lawyers drawn from our corporate, regulatory and now disputes practice teams. The team has been actively advising international insurers, intermediaries and other financial institutions in a wide range of insurance transactions in the Asian region for many years, and is experienced in understanding the key issues and anticipating the most effective means to address them quickly and efficiently.

Partner Stuart Valentine, who specialises in cross-border M&A and business regulation in relation to insurers and other financial institutions in Hong Kong and China said, “The expansion of the insurance litigation team with Kieran’s appointment is a demonstration of our commitment to the insurance sector.  His arrival will enhance the strong relationships we have in assisting high profile insurance, reinsurance and intermediary companies in Hong Kong and mainland China, as well as other Asian jurisdictions, with their corporate transactions and regulatory matters.”
