The combination between Mallesons Stephen Jaques and China's King & Wood has been heralded as a "game-changer for global legal services" as the combined firm took out the 'International law firm of the Year' category at the Legal Business Awards in London last week.
King & Wood Mallesons nudged out a host of leading international players operating in and across Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australasia, the Middle East and Africa to take the award, which is consistently favoured by the industry’s leading lawyers as the most prestigious and highly respected awards on the legal calendar.
At the London award ceremony, it was recognised that: "All attention has been focused on a top-drawer transatlantic combination for the past decade. But this combination points emphatically to a new world order".
The incoming Global Managing Partner of King & Wood Mallesons, Stuart Fuller, received the award in London, together with Mallesons' partner, Robert Hanley and King & Wood's Handel Lee and Mark Schaub. Mr Fuller said "This award lends recognition to the fact that King & Wood Mallesons unmistakably is an important new choice among the leading international law firms. With unrestricted Chinese legal capability on top of our already strong regional offering, the combination of King & Wood Mallesons has created a new global legal powerhouse with a uniquely Asian view of the world."
