Angela Chung specialises in Debt Capital Markets and acts for supranational, sovereign and agency issuers, the major Australian banks and international investment banks as well as listed and private companies in the Australian and international debt capital markets. She acts on virtually every “Kangaroo bond” transaction undertaken in the Australian market. Angela's extensive experience across Debt Capital Markets transactions gives her a unique breadth and depth of expertise which is well-known to and highly regarded by the players in the Australian market. Angela is recognised as a “Rising Star” for debt capital markets in The Legal 500 and her team has been awarded KangaNews Australian Law Firm of the Year every year for nearly two decades. She is also involved with the International Capital Markets Association and the Women in Banking & Finance Association.

Angela’s work highlights include:

  • World Bank, European Investment Bank, Asian Development Bank and African Development Bank: advising on their A$ Programmes and A$ Note issuances
  • Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board, the Public Sector Pension Investment Board and OMERS: advising on their A$ Programmes and A$ Note issuances
  • Republic of Korea: advising on the issue of A$450 million Notes – the first sovereign kangaroo transaction for nearly two decades
  • DBS Bank: advising on the issue of A$750 million Covered Bonds. This transaction was the first Asian bank to issue a covered bond in the Australian market. She has also advised on the covered bond issuances for Bank of New Zealand, The Toronto-Dominion Bank, Royal Bank of Canada, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Bank of Nova Scotia, Westpac, ANZ and Suncorp
  • DBS Group Holdings Limited (the holding company of DBS Bank): advising on the issue of A$750 million Subordinated Notes. This transaction was widely recognised in the legal press as a “market first” and “market leading” transaction
  • Westpac: advising on the issue of A$925 million Subordinated Notes. The offer represented the second Tier 2 regulatory capital issuance by an Australian financial institution – and the first through a bank entity
  • QBE Insurance: advising on the issue of US$400 million Additional Tier 1 Capital Gender Equality Bonds that attracted US$8.25 billion worth of orders, which meant the bond was more than 20 times oversubscribed
  • Sydney Airport and Adelaide Airport: advising on their EMTN/AMTN Programmes and EMTN/AMTN issuances
