King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) is pleased to have advised Lightsource bp on the completed sale of a portfolio of five operational solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Australia to Aula Energy.

The portfolio comprises five operational solar projects located in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, representing some of the first utility scale assets delivered by Lightsource bp in Australia, and comprising over 1GW of generation capacity.

The transaction forms part of Lightsource bp’s broader strategic repositioning in the Asia Pacific region, aligning with its move towards developing hybrid renewable projects that integrate onshore solar and wind with battery storage solutions.

The KWM team was led by Partner Tim Sumner, supported by Special Counsel Jared Nickig and Solicitor Georgia Henderson, with Partner Rod Smythe and Senior Associate Morgan Clune leading on a related pre-sale portfolio financing.

Commenting on the transaction, Partner Tim Sumner said:

“Lightsource bp has played a significant role in shaping Australia’s large scale solar market, and this transaction reflects the maturity and quality of its early assets. This transaction underscores ongoing confidence in Australia’s renewable energy sector and sets Lightsource bp up to continue to deliver on its hybrid renewable project strategy. We valued the opportunity to assist Lightsource bp.”

This milestone reinforces KWM’s continued role advising clients across Australia’s renewable energy landscape.
