King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) is proud to have advised Aula Energy on the ~$900 million Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm in South Australia, which has reached financial close, following the execution of a long-term offtake agreement with Snowy Hydro.

The milestone marks Aula Energy’s second large-scale wind project to reach financial close in under 15 months, underscoring the strength and capability of the Aula team and its stakeholders to deliver projects such as this in Australia’s renewable energy market.

The 256MW wind farm, located approximately seven kilometres east of Georgetown in South Australia, follows the successful financial close of Aula Energy’s Boulder Creek Wind Farm in Queensland in September last year, on which KWM also advised.

The cross-disciplinary KWM team was led by Partners Shirley Cheng (Projects & Energy), Chris Dynon (Projects & Finance), Jeff Clark (Finance) and Roderick Smythe (Projects & Energy) and supported by Senior Associates Edward Kus (Construction), Shubho Mukerjee (Construction), Aditya Shivam (Projects & Energy), Morgan Clune (Projects & Energy) and David Kennelly (Finance) and a team of solicitors including Ruby Day, Nick Forbutt, Sofia Jaquiery, Grace Kelly, Katie Nikolaou, Emma Murphy, D’Arcy O’Shannassy, Celine Stylianou and Isabel Freudenstein.

Commenting on the project, Partner Shirley Cheng said:

“Once again, it has been a privilege to work alongside the Aula team to bring another wind farm to financial close, having acted on Aula’s flagship project, the Boulder Creek wind farm. Successfully closing two major projects in such a short period is a testament to the perseverance, direction and authenticity of the Aula team and we are delighted to have been by their side. Congratulations to all involved.”

The Carmody’s Hill Wind Farm is expected to deliver long-term benefits for local communities, including employment opportunities and community investment throughout construction and operation.

KWM continues to be at the forefront of advising on market-leading renewable energy developments, supporting clients across the development, financing and delivery of projects critical to Australia’s energy transition.
