King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) is proud to have advised a syndicate of 10 financiers on the financing of the Atmos Renewables Merredin Battery. The deal reached financial close on 25 June 2025.
This new 100MW/400MWh battery will be constructed approximately 8km south-west of Merredin, Western Australia and will add valuable storage capacity in Western Australia.
The Merredin Battery is the latest additional to Atmos’ portfolio of assets, which includes over 1.8GW of operating renewable assets and a significant pipeline of projects in development.
Led by Partner Chris Dynon, the KWM team—including Senior Associates Madeleine Coates and David Kennelly, and Solicitors Emily Powell and Eleanor Croagh—advised the financiers through an accelerated period from initial documentation to financial close. White & Case represented Atmos Renewables on the financing aspects of the transaction.
Commenting on the deal, Chris Dynon said:
“It was a pleasure to once again advise the financiers to the Atmos portfolio, this time on the financing of the Merredin Battery. KWM is proud of our relationship with Atmos and its financiers and grateful for the opportunity to further strengthen that relationship through this transaction. This transaction follows the recent acquisitions of the Cattle Hill Wind Farm in Tasmania and Karadoc Solar Farm in Victoria. The unique Atmos portfolio financing arrangements allow for complex projects like these to be financed in a streamlined, efficient manner.”
The deal adds to KWM’s extensive experience advising on portfolio financing transactions and the project financing of battery energy storage projects (and follows recent roles on the Wooreen BESS, Calala BESS and Limestone Coast BESS projects), reinforcing our leadership in Australia’s energy transition.
