Asia’s top-tier international law firm King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has announced the appointment of leading private equity specialist, Niro Ananda, to its regional Private Capital team.

A specialist private equity lawyer, Niro has for the last 2 decades guided many of the most prominent and active financial sponsors and their portfolio companies through complex transactions, including private and public M&A, securities offerings, and capital restructures across a wide variety of sectors.

Niro’s appointment is a reflection of the firm’s continued expansion of its Tier 1 private capital practice, allowing us to offer additional depth and breadth of expertise and experience for our sponsor clients.

Commenting on the appointment, KWM Chief Executive Partner Renae Lattey said:

“We are delighted to welcome Niro to the KWM partnership. His appointment represents a major opportunity for both KWM’s already strong private capital practice and its clients given the increasing importance of private capital deal volume in the broader Australian private capital market”.

Further commenting, KWM co-head of Private Capital Mark McNamara said:

“Private capital’s prominence in Australian markets continues to grow. Niro’s appointment reflects our continued commitment to our clients to ensure they have a depth and breadth of team in Australia and Asia to match that growth.  Coupled with the integration of our leading real estate private equity specialists (Mark Bayliss and Quintin du Plessis), our private capital team will continue to grow allowing us to meet current and expected future market demand in the private capital space.

Niro joins KWM effective 1 May, based in the firm’s Sydney office. He was previously at Clayton Utz where he has been a partner since 2009, and has been recognised by various independent legal publications, including Chambers Asia Pacific, Who’s Who Legal, The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, IFLR1000, and Best Lawyers as a top-tier lawyer.
