Mallesons has advised the Palisade-managed Intera Renewables on its acquisition of a 100% interest in the Summerfield Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in South Australia.
Summerfield is a large-scale battery storage project that will supply much-needed backup power and grid stability to South Australia, while supporting the state’s target transition to 100% renewables by 2027. The project will also supply energy to the national electricity grid.
The 240MWac/960MWh battery is located approximately 50 kilometres east of Adelaide.
The project was developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and is currently under construction, with Intera acquiring full ownership during the build phase.
Once operational, Summerfield will be supported by a long‑term tolling agreement with Origin Energy, with commercial operations targeted for late 2026.
The Mallesons deal team was led by Partner Roderick Smythe and included Partners Tim Ma, Chris Dynon and Mandy Tsang, Senior Associates Morgan Clune, Emma Reed, Tom Harrison and Rouzbeh Ansari, Solicitor Jonathan Le and others.
