We are committed to harnessing the power of emerging technologies like Generative AI to benefit our clients, our firm and our people. Our approach brings together strong governance, market-leading technology and high-quality skill building.

6 key principles that shape the way we use AI at Mallesons
  • 1
Building a holistic AI and LegalTech toolkit
We proactively identify, develop and use AI systems where it benefits our clients, our firm or our people. We research and experiment with new AI technologies to assess capability and accuracy, explore use cases and evaluate potential to drive value for our people and our clients.
  • 2
    Prioritising safety and security
We only use AI systems that we assess as safe, secure, and responsible in accordance with our AI Governance Framework. We are ISO 27001 certified, and our cyber security framework is designed to protect data held by us.
  • 3
    Data confidentiality
We take care to ensure that client data that is accessed by AI systems we use is managed and handled securely and confidentially by those AI systems. This includes foundation products and tools that we implement across our business which may use or incorporate Generative AI (such as Microsoft 365 Copilot). Because of this, we are unable to limit the use of those foundation Generative AI products across our business and the data that we hold.
  • 4
    Accountability and a human-in-the-loop approach
Our people remain responsible and accountable for all work generated with the assistance of AI systems.
  • 5
    Collaborating with clients
We share our technology insights and knowledge with our clients to assist them in their own use of AI through our AI Advisory offering, led by our Innovation Team.
  • 6
    Upskilling our people
We continuously and actively train our people on the use, risks and benefits in responsible use of AI through a number of learning offerings: from our market-leading Graduate Digital Bootcamps designed for emerging legal professionals, to our award-winning LegalTech and Legal Transformation Belts program. This is one way we continue to future-proof and mitigate against risks posed by the use of AI. The Belts program provides micro-credentialing offerings for all our people, and are designed to ensure they are equipped to navigate an evolving legal landscape.
