Ryan Iskandar specialises in financial markets and structured finance across a wide variety of practice areas, including securitisations, structured products and derivatives across all asset classes, debt capital markets and structured lending across the Asia-Pacific region. He has more than a decade of experience working in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney, and regularly advises clients on innovative cross-border transactions and structures.

Ryan is also an active contributor and thought leader on environmental, social and governance (ESG) topics. He represented the firm in the inaugural ISDA Future Leaders in Derivatives working group, which published an important industry paper on sustainability-linked derivatives. He has since advised global financial institutions and major corporations on carbon and sustainability-linked transactions.

Ryan is qualified in England & Wales, Hong Kong SAR and New South Wales (Australia), and is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Ryan’s recent highlights

  • Cross-border securitisations: Advising offshore banks and private credit funds on participating Australian securitisation transactions, including the development on innovative feeder structures which are tailored to meet specific commercial needs
  • Restructurings of cross-border repackaging transactions: Advising financial institution clients on restructuring and recovering investments in cross-border repackaging transactions involving Chinese corporates
  • Fintech securitisations: Advising clients in relation to innovative structured finance transaction in the fintech sector, including but not limited to the Qupital US$150 million warehouse securitisation facility
  • Structured products and derivatives: Acted for a number of global and Chinese financial institutions on a wide variety of structured product and derivatives transactions referencing a wide range of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, funds, commodities and other bespoke asset classes
  • Carbon derivatives: Advising various banks and corporates on carbon trading documentation in relation to ACCUs and other international carbon units, and associated regulatory issues
  • Covered bonds: Advising Bendigo and Adelaide Bank on its AUD $6 billion Soft-Bullet Covered Bond Programme in October 2022, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange
  • Structured loan transactions: Advising borrowers and lenders on various structured loan transactions, including the use of repackaging technology
