Mallesons has advised Mitsubishi Estate Asia, on its investment in a large-scale masterplanned residential community in western Melbourne, Eynesbury Estate.
The community is being developed as a complete township, with over 4,500 lots approved for development, supported by education, retail, health, community and hospitality amenities. Mitsubishi Estate Asia has invested alongside the existing developer Resimax Group as a partner.
The investment further expands Mitsubishi Estate Asia’s portfolio of Australian living sector assets, while adding to the strong flow of Japanese investment into Australia’s real estate sector.
The Mallesons team was led by Real Estate Partner Emily Masters, supported by Senior Associate Andrew Gibbons and Solicitor Raneisha Legah.
Debt finance aspects were led by Partner Ken Astridge, supported by Senior Associate James Cain. Foreign investment was led by Partner Intan Eow, assisted by Solicitor CJ Chu, while ACCC clearance work was provided by Partner Christopher Kok.
Commenting on the transaction, Emily Masters said:
“Mitsubishi Estate Asia is taking a long-term view of the Australian market and we feel honoured to have supported them on this important venture, together with their advisers Emerge Capital. This investment shows the role institutional capital can play in supporting housing supply at scale, particularly through large masterplanned communities designed to grow over time.”
The transaction highlights Mallesons’ experience advising Japanese investors on inbound investment into Australia and its ability to bring together real estate, corporate, finance and regulatory expertise on complex cross-border transactions.
