Mallesons has advised Glencore plc (Glencore), one of the world’s largest diversified mining companies, on its secondary listing on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), bringing another major global resources company to the Australian market.
Glencore has been admitted to the Official List of the ASX as a Foreign Exempt Listing with the first day of trading on 14 October 2026. The move comes at a time when large new ASX listings remain relatively scarce. Australia is one of Glencore’s most important jurisdictions, with significant copper, coal, zinc and nickel operations and 16,800 employees.
Glencore joins around 80 international companies dual-listed on the ASX. As a FTSE 100 company, Glencore will be amongst the most significant.
The Mallesons team was led by David Eliakim (Partner and M&A Practice Leader) and Paul Schroder (Partner), supported by Bella Kidman (Solicitor) and with specialist input from Mark McFarlane (Partner).
Commenting on the listing, Paul Schroder said:
“It is not every day that a company of Glencore’s scale joins the ASX, particularly in a period of subdued listing activity. Its arrival is a significant addition to the Australian market and reinforces the ASX’s standing as a leading resources exchange.”
David Eliakim added:
“Glencore has a significant presence in Australia, so there is a strong rationale for the listing. It gives Australian investors easier access to the company and brings Glencore closer to a market with a deep understanding of resources.”
This transaction builds on Mallesons’ market-leading equity capital markets capability, particularly in cross-border listings for global resources companies. Mallesons recently acted on Wiluna’s IPO on ASX to raise A$180 million and last year acted on the IPO and cross-listing on ASX and AIM of Greatland which debuted on the ASX on 24 June 2025 with a market capitalisation of $A4.9 billion.
