Following our previous publication on the NSW Freight Policy Reform Program Consultation Paper and notice that reform submissions have been published, this article serves as a notice that the Freight Policy Reform Interim Directions Paper (‘the Paper’) has been released and is publicly available as of 11 September 2024. The Paper sets out numerous actions and directions, in addition to key consultation matters that Transport for NSW (‘TfNSW’) is seeking feedback on. Feedback on the Paper is open for online submissions until 23 October 2024 and will be used to inform the final actions and recommendations as part of the Freight Policy Reform Program.

In line with the Consultation Paper, the NSW freight policy reform is also taking an end-to-end system approach and considering the entire freight logistics chain. This includes consultation, feedback and available submissions on the Draft Heavy Vehicle Access Policy and how the implementation of 20 of the 21 PBLIS recommendations may benefit or impact industry (available here). The release of the Paper begins the next step in consultation on the Freight Policy Reform Program and concludes the review of the Heavy Vehicle Access Policy and finalises the recommendations made in the Review of the Port Botany Landside Improvement Strategy.

For any assistance related to the Reform Program, please contact Chris Mitchell and Larissa Buriak.

We will continue to monitor the Reform Program and keep you updated with further developments.
