Jacob is an experienced intellectual property disputes lawyer.
He works with businesses to enforce, challenge and defend IP rights – including in litigation before the Federal Court and High Court and in oppositions before IP Australia. He also has considerable experience resolving IP disputes commercially, both before and after litigation has commenced.
Jacob regularly acts in commercially significant disputes concerning patents, trade marks, misleading or deceptive conduct, passing off and misuse of confidential information. He also advises on IP enforcement, strategy and risk.
With an undergraduate science degree, Jacob is well-placed to advise clients in a range of sectors – including life sciences, agribusiness, food and beverage, resources, manufacturing and consumer goods.
Jacob’s experience includes:
- Acting for Zip Co in ongoing trade mark litigation, including an appeal to the High Court of Australia.
- Acting for major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in complex patent litigation relating to medicines, vaccines, antibodies, pharmaceutical formulations, genetic testing and herbicides.
- Acting in breach of confidence disputes relating to software, digital technologies, recipes, product formulations and professional services.
- Advising on IP risks and opportunities arising from the use of artificial intelligence and acting in litigation concerning enforcement of patents relating to AI-based technology and AI inventorship.
- Enforcing copyright and defending copyright infringement allegations in relation to software, databases, building plans, photographs, product packaging and logos.
Jacob is a member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ) and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI).
