Melanie Shaw is an experienced Special Counsel in the tax group. With over 15 years of experience, Melanie advises primarily on indirect tax matters, with a particular focus on state taxes (Australia-wide), across a broad range of sectors and transactions. Melanie's practice also extends to advising on certain direct tax matters, most often in the investment funds sector.
Melanie spent the first six years of her legal career in a London law firm, working on international tax matters, in particular M&A transactions and private capital work.
Melanie is also a leading expert on the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and the OECD Common Reporting Standard (CRS), having advised financial institutions and investment entities since the inception of those regimes.
